The article examines the functional features of the influence of socio-cultural identity on the evolution of local communities that determine the processes of integration and disintegration of the socio-cultural space. The main trends in the modernization of local communities are determined by the basic socio-cultural values that serve as the basis for the formation of identity, determining the direction of the processes of transformation of culture and sociality. The changing socio-cultural space is a mixture of styles, norms, and principles reflecting the values of tradition, modernity, and archaism, transforming and complicating the foundations of socioculture. Socio-cultural identity is a unique, specific characteristic of localities that performs adaptive-heuristic, axiological-motivational, regulatory-integration functions that generate vital processes of local communities that contribute to the preservation of socio-cultural heritage. Functionally, identity appears to be one of the key factors contributing to socio-cultural transformation, the evolution of the socio-cultural space of localities.
