This review examines the first Russian-language book on contemporary speculative philosophy – Dmitrii Haustov’s “Dark Theories: Philosophy After Postmodernism” (AST, 2026). It analyses formal features (lack of bibliography and academic editor, structure, style) and substantive shortcomings: a questionable organisation of material and engagement with sources, bias. Using the discussions of Brassier, Woodard, Land, and Meillassoux as examples, the review shows that the author often substitutes systematic analysis for evaluative summary. The conclusion is that the book possesses certain merits (examples from cinema, the outline of an authorial interpretation drawing on Romanticism), yet however important the pioneering function of “Dark Theories” may be, it cannot serve as a reliable introduction to the philosophy of the speculative turn.
