Ideologeme of Holy Rus' through the Prism of V. V. Rozanov's Views

The article examines the evolution of V. V. Rozanov's views from the epistemology of his treatise “On Understanding” (1886) to the historiosophy of his later period. Based on an analysis of the distinction between “knowledge” and “understanding”, it is shown how the philosopher comes to interpret "Holy Rus'" not as a political or geographical entity, but as a metaphysical idea accessible only through an act of deep understanding. Special attention is paid to comparing two of Rozanov's key texts – his review of M. V. Nesterov's painting “Holy Rus” (1907) and “The Apocalypse of Our Time” (1917–1918). It is concluded that the catastrophe of 1917 does not deny the ideal of “Holy Rus” but transfers it from the sphere of external forms to the sphere of spiritual state, revealed through “understanding”.
