Adopting the "imperial syndrome" as an analytical frame, the author investigates the impact of globalization on localities. The study reveals the dialectic relationship between global processes and local responses, outlining key theoretical principles of their engagement.
The dynamics of localities in the Eurasian space is determined not by linear modernization, but by a complex interaction of differentiation and consolidation mediated by the “imperial syndrome”. The dynamic balance between differentiation and consolidation is the key to sustainability. Excessive differentiation without unifying mechanisms leads to fragmentation and conflict; hypertrophied, violent consolidation stimulates stagnation and rejection of innovations. The concept of the “imperial syndrome” is operationalized as an analytical tool that allows us to capture the duality of post-imperial consciousness (nostalgic and traumatic modes).
