Abstract

The article examines the critical views of the philosopher and social critic Ivan Illich on the beginning of the New Era. Illich's criticism of modernity is based on the consideration of the axiological break of this era, which led to the transformation of the key values of human existence. By contrasting vernacular, that is, locally natural, values with economic ones, Illich uses the example of speech and dwelling to show exactly how this transformation historically takes place, eventually cutting off the path to the formation of large institutions that eventually erase the sense of kinship and community from public life, leading to social deprivation of a human.
