Interethnic Harmony in a Multiethnic Community: Indicators and Indexes (Based on the Materials of Sociological Research in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia))

The study aims to identify the resilience of the model of interethnic harmony in the multiethnic Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under modern challenges. The goal was to measure and analyze the dynamics of this phenomenon by developing an integral index. The theoretical framework is based on a synthesis of consociationalism, social interaction theory, and the concept of multiple identities. The empirical base consists of two waves of quantitative sociological surveys (2012–2013 and 2024–2025, n =2286). The methodology includes comparative analysis and the construction of an Index of Interethnic Harmony (IIH) using factor analysis methods. Overall stability in the region persists, but the dynamics are contradictory: improvement at the micro-level is combined with a polarization of perceptions at the federal level. The IIH revealed significant variation: the highest level of harmony is among Yakuts and Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of the North, the lowest among Russians; significant differences were found between types of settlements and geographical zones. The stability of a pluralistic model of identity has been confirmed.
