The Russian Model of Multiculturalism as a Factor of National Integration

The article presents the author’s justification of the term “multiculturalism” as a characteristic of the process of interaction between ethno-cultural groups in an interethnic community (region, country, or civilization), which involves the interpenetration of elements of ethnic cultures and the formation of a common sociocultural core (national idea), as well as an ideology and policy. The article shows the differences between a multicultural model and a polycultural model, and identifies the specific features of the Russian model of a multicultural community, which was influenced by Byzantine traditions of state administration, Orthodoxy, and the Eurasian concept of Russia's civilizational and geopolitical mission. The author believes that studying the specifics of the Russian model of multiculturalism, as a unique socio-cultural phenomenon with almost no analogues, is extremely important for solving the problem of uniting Russian society.
