Abstract

Cross-world predication is highly widespread in natural languages. However, this phenomenon cannot be reflected by means of standard modal logic and possible world semantics, which motivates elaborating non-standard modal logics capable of reflecting cross-world predication. Two approaches to this problem are compared – the approach based on using hybrid formal languages (represented by Wehmeier, and Kocurek), and the one based on using standard formal languages (represented by Butterfield and Stirling, and me). It is shown that the advantage of the first approach lies in the high expressivity of hybrid logics, whereas the advantage of the last approach lies in the complete lexical correspondence between formal language and natural language.
